Our good friend Laurie Yuenger really has a way with words. So much so, in fact, that photographers regularly seek Laurie out for advice on how to handle client relations.  We are so excited to announce that Laurie’s awesome verbiage can be at your fingertips via her new book “Dear XYZ – The Photographer’s Guide to Surviving Clients.”  The book has hundreds of sample messages for dealing with situations from new client inquiries, clients who want to haggle, requests to see “all of the images”, sick kids, and other tricky client situations.  Laurie has generously offered TPW members and blog readers a 50% off coupon code, valid thru July 28, 2014.  Use the code TPW50 upon checkout at http://www.dear-xyz.com/.  Thanks Laurie!

TPW team member and photoshop workshop instructor Lora Swinson has reviewed Laurie’s Ebook and is here to share her thoughts.
Lora Swinson Reviews "Dear XYZ: The Photographer's Guide to Surviving Clients"
Many of us begin our photography journey with the birth of our children.  We want to document their lives, give them tangible memories that they will one day hand down to their own children.  As you share those images online, your friends begin asking you for your services and it just grows from there.  Now strangers are getting in touch with you, and you’ve created a full blown business.  This is wonderful right?!  Yes…and no.  It is definitely a double edged sword.  Unless you’ve earned a degree in Business or Human Resources, you are not trained in how to handle upset clients, clients who believe all your job entails is pushing a button, and many other situations you never thought you’d be in.  This is where ‘Dear XYZ’ comes in…

‘Dear XYZ’ is NOT a book full of pre-written letters for you to copy and paste.  It is NOT a set of rules laid out for you to abide by.  It is a guide to understanding your client, getting inside their head, and seeing things through their perspective.  Yes, Laurie gives responses to certain inquiries, but these are just stepping stones to understanding why your client is thinking this way, and how to respond to certain requests.  We are emotionally attached to our work, it is part of us, and often times we get wrapped up in the emotional aspect of it.  So many photography businesses fail, because while they have intense talent and love for their work, they lack any business and/or client sense.  If you want to make money in this over saturated market, what are the most important things?  Clients who come back time and time again, learning to stand your ground, and creating incredible word of mouth by portraying yourself as a legitimate business owner.  ‘Dear XYZ’ will help guide you to dealing with your clients.  You will understand when it is important to bend on your rules, when to stick to your guns and how to help your client feel confident that you know what you are doing.

Through reading the 74 pages of incredible information, I cannot count the times where I thought, “Man I wish I had this when I first began my business!”  So many headaches would have been saved, more money would have been made, and I would have started my journey with a stronger business sense.  From client’s who want all the RAW files, families who copy and print illegally, to dealing with other Photographers requests for ‘secrets’ this PDF is a godsend to anyone in this industry.  Don’t wait to purchase- it is, hands down, essential to the success of your business!  Laurie is a genius and I am so thankful for her willingness to share her talent!

Photographers - having client frustrations? Then "Dear XYZ" is the resource for you!
