Photography is a combination of technical and creative considerations including composition, processing, location, equipment choice and posing amongst others. But one of the biggest factors is how you use the light available to you to translate your vision into the final image. Light can turn an image from a meh into a wow!

This class will teach you about the intricacies of light, about creative exposures, about pushing past ‘safe’ images, about how to use light to tell a story in one frame and about how to translate your vision into your final image through your use of light.

We will look at:

– deliberate underexposure and overexposure;

– how the quality of light affects your final image;

– how other art forms, including cinematography and classical art, use light in their work and what you can learn from them;

– how to use the light to enhance your visual story-telling

– having fun with light, including playing with shadows, creating texture, shooting after dark and using light itself as your subject.

Come join me, infuse your images with light and leave as a more creative and adventurous photographer.

    Kat’s class was fantastic – she really made me think about light and using it in different ways. I loved the images I created in this class (some of my favorites!) and definitely feel like I see light in different ways now!!
