“Today In America” – A Personal Project Image Share
by Natalie Fay Green
After working with CJ Nicolai, I am committed to the use of personal projects as part of my growth as a photographer. They fuel my passion and challenge my creativity. Currently, I’m working on four projects: Life in My Family, The Natural World, The Beach, and Today in America.
My Today in America project, in particular, is near to my heart. It’s my attempt to document the sights and experiences of life in America today. I want to freeze this moment in time. And I want to capture as many aspects of American life as I can. This project isn’t just about my life in the suburbs; my hope is that it will bigger than that. Sometimes it’s beautiful and sometimes it’s raw, but I want it to always be real. Because it’s still very new, there are many, many facets of America that I haven’t touched. But that’s part of the challenge—it’s hard for me to imagine that this project will every be complete. And that’s one of the reasons I love it.
These are some of my favorite images from my project so far.

Natalie this is a wonderful project. The way you executed these images is perfect. I can feel the emotion poured into these and I love how you brought the beauty out of ordinary places. Beautiful work!
Thank you so much! I love the project, and I’m thrilled that you all do too!
What an amazing project! The squirrel was unexpected and added a bit of humour for me. 🙂 This would make a fantastic book!
Thank you, Adeena!
Your processing gives these a timeless feel, for some of them I think I could be looking at an image from today or from fifty years ago. Beautiful, beautiful work! I can’t wait to see this collection grow. ♥
I love this idea for a project and your wonderful take on it, Natalie. These images make me think of Time Life Magazine and the raw, real to life images that the magazine is famous for showcasing. This project will make a wonderful coffee table book once it is complete.
Natalie, these are AMAZING. Please tell me they are framed in a gallery or at least in your home.
I love this article because you are one of my favorite people, one of my favorite photographers, and these are some of my favorite images of yours. I just love this project, please continue to share as you add more images!
